The Year Ahead
Over the next 12 months we will continue to work with our members and their partners as they work through the implications of the recent general election and what this means for the pace and scale of public services reform.
Here is a flavour of what we have planned for 2015/2016
Workforce & Employment
Future Talent – we will offer a range of events, development centres and opportunities to support our members to think through how they attract, retain and develop talent that fits future needs.
Shaping Roles – we will work with our members to think through how future roles and teams will need to be designed to meet changing needs e.g. key workers and multi-functional teams.
Improving Productivity – we will provide events and thinking about how wellbeing and employee engagement can be used as key tools to increase productivity and staff satisfaction.
Employment Matters – we will continue our work with key groups to give advice on a range of employment issues in the context of public services reform.
Strengthen Human Resource and Organisational Development Capacity – we will work with these key groups to ensure they have the latest thinking and practice at their fingertips.
Supporting Chief Executives Across the Public Sector – we will provide safe spaces, quality inputs and opportunities for chief executives to come together and develop a North West voice on key issues.
Developing Future Public Sector Leaders – we will continue to develop leaders across the sectors through our Emerging Leaders, Grow Your Own and broader programmes.
Developing Organisations and Systems Readiness for Change – we will work to help organisations create the conditions, mind-sets and behaviours that will enable success in a new era of public services.
Joint Director Development – we will continue to support directors from across children’s, adults and public health to work together and create opportunities for them to network with directors from the broader health system.
Capturing Emerging Leadership Practice – this year we want to develop our links with academic institutions and our existing partners to help share the cross sector intelligence that we are gathering through our everyday work and contribute to developing thinking and practice for the future.
Developing Lead Members Capacity and Sharing – through our target networks and a series of focused events we will support key groups to develop the necessary skills to fulfil changing roles e.g. supporting lead members for children’s and adults.
Equipping Councillors to Help Communities – we will provide opportunities for councillors to develop their skills in areas such as digital, dementia and health and wellbeing to support them to promote independence and growth in communities.
Supporting New Devolved Structures – we will support areas to work through the implications of devolved powers including Combined Authorities, Mayors and City Regions.
Supporting Members in Assurance Roles – with ever increasingly complex governance arrangements we will continue to support people in governance roles to work through the implications of these changes.
21st Century Councillor Research – we will work with our partners to explore what is going to be required of our councillors in this ever evolving public services landscape.
Networking & Connecting
Interchange – creating opportunities for colleagues from across the public, private and voluntary sector to experience life in another sector through a range of activities including mentoring, coaching, shadowing and action learning.
Networking Support – we will continue to provide quality, mixed and innovative networking opportunities for councillors and officers to help connect people, ideas and practice.
Sector Led Support – we will work across children’s, adults and health to improve performance in key service areas through providing challenge, support and development opportunities.
Building Shared Capacity Across Sectors to Support Change – we will provide opportunities for colleagues from across the sector to develop skills in action learning, mentoring and more, in exchange for a time investment from participants back into the region.
Sharing Intelligence – we will use a range of ways to gather, connect and share intelligence on a wide range of public service challenges.
