Last night (16.03.16) saw the annual Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards take place at the prestigious Grosvenor House, London. The LGC are responsible for running the first national awards to be launched for local government, recognising those excelling and making real change in their area.
Nick Golding, LGC’s editor, said before the awards were presented by actor Stephen Mangan:
“…It is vital that we celebrate the best of local government, not least as the talent and innovation of council officers and councillors is often not recognised to the extent it should be. The recipients of the awards are the people doing the most to improve services at a time resources are constrained. We should thank them for their great work…”
The North West is always well represented at this event but last night there were two significant wins for the area with the prestigious Council of the Year being awarded to Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council and the award for Digital Council of the Year going to Wigan Council. Two huge achievements in their own right and two councils North West Employers are extremely happy to work with on a regular basis.
The judges said of Tameside: “This is a bold and creative council which shows influence, realism and courage. It has demonstrated how its current ambition is the culmination of years of hard work.”
