The Principal Social Work (adults) network is co-ordinated by Colin Ashcroft Principal Social Worker and Organisational Development Manager, Cheshire West and Chester Council and provides peer support to PSWs in each authority. It will monitor the implementation of employer and practice standards for adult social work in the region and provide a key regional link to the national network and the office of the Chief Social Worker in the DH. It will develop a key professional link to the range of ADASS networks and groups and be formally represented on the ADASS Workforce Group chaired by Sharon Barber, Assistant Director, Wigan Council. It will also link in to the Learn to Care (workforce leads network) and the regional Social Work Forum facilitated by Skills for Care.

An Invitation to Partner and Strengthen Mental Health Services
Think Ahead is a charity that works in partnership with community mental health services to improve efficiency and outcomes by strengthening the contribution of social work.
They run a programme, funded by the Department of Health, to give mental health service providers excellent social work recruits, give their existing staff free training, and work alongside managers to transform the role that social work plays in the service. Some more information about what they do can be found in their partnering brochure online.
They are currently working with 52 services across England and are looking to expand their network of partners in the North West. They’re keen to have a chat and explore whether the programme might be of use in your area.
If you’d like to discuss the programme in more detail, please contact their Programme Manager, Rebecca Hall
