In this whirlwind tour of social media, Dominic Chessum, will give councillors the basics of how to successfully connect with their community online.
He will showcase the tools and understanding needed to ensure that the time and effort invested in engaging with residents online is optimised.
Introducing topics including content creation, accessibility, copyright and libel, as well as what to do if you are trolled online. This short course is a must for any councillor looking to use social media as part of their resident engagement work.

Programme Content

The 30-minute training session is designed to give participants a brief introduction to working
with the media and the things they need to consider if they want to give an effective
interview.

It covers:

  • The modern media and how it works
  • Meet the journalists – inside the mind of a reporter
  • What’s the point of giving an interview?
  • Different media – print, radio, TV and Zoom
  • Developing key points and a key message
  • Things you ask before giving an interview
  • Differentiating between The Council, the administration, and party politics.
  • Maintaining public trust in the authority while criticising decisions.
