In this whirlwind tour of social media, Dominic Chessum, will give councillors the basics of how to successfully connect with their community online. He will showcase the tools and understanding needed to ensure that the time and effort invested in engaging with residents online is optimised. Introducing topics including content creation, accessibility, copyright and libel, as well as what to do if you are trolled online. This short course is a must for any councillor looking to use social media as part of their resident engagement work.

Programme Content

The 30-minute training session is designed to give participants a brief introduction to social
media and the things they need to consider if they want to make it effective for them.

It covers:

  • Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should – a considered approach to social
    media use
  • What platforms to use
  • Learn to love the algorithm –social media algorithms, how they work and what this
    means for you.
  • Creating engaging content and why it’s important
  • The legal stuff – copyright, libel
  • Guarding your reputation and warding off trolls
