The ILM Level 5 Certificate and Diploma in School Business Management are designed for aspiring and practicing School Business Managers. Written in line with the NASBM Professional Standards for School Business Management and Leadership, the qualifications will provide the opportunity for students to develop skills and experience in the areas of finance, human resources, procurement, leading support services, infrastructure and marketing as well as supporting the development of general and strategic leadership and management skills, knowledge and behaviours. By the end of the qualification, students can expect to have the skills, knowledge and professional competence to manage a team as well as a range of processes and practices associated with the role of a School Business Manager. They will be able to hold management accountability for an individual or team, and influence priorities and actions as part of school or Trust strategic planning.

The Certificate consists of six units. The Diploma has a further single unit lasting 6 months. All are designed around the units of the qualifications:

- Managing projects in the organisation
- Understanding financial management
- Management coaching and mentoring
- Leading innovation and change
- Developing critical thinking
Linked into each of the six units is a range of material related to the role of a School Business Manager, matched to the NASBM Professional Standards and covering the areas of:
- Leading Support Services
- Human Resources
Managing your own CPD. One unit, lasting six months, in which students work with their coach on their own personal and organisational development agenda. The process involves:
- Self and organisational analysis
- Identification of personal and organisational development objectives
- Setting personal development plan
- Individual monthly coaching
- Access to broad range of leadership and management learning materials
- Monthly reflective reviews
- Final evaluation
