The Emerging Leaders’ Programme is an accelerated learning opportunity for talented Middle Managers who have the potential to be the senior leaders of the future.
To replace current leadership, we will have to reach deeper into the pool of the next generation. We need to think differently about the qualities we need in our leadership and how we ensure our leaders of the future are prepared for the challenges ahead.
Following on from the success of the programme, we are delighted to offer the programme again this Winter.
This programme is aimed at:
• Middle managers looking to progress
• Managers who are taking on additional leadership responsibilities
• Professionals who are increasingly required to lead and influence others
• Professionals who are expected to lead across professional boundaries
• Those early in their careers who are taking part in fast track programmes
We know that developing, engaging and retaining good quality people has never been more crucial than it is today. With the restructuring and uncertainty generated by the recession, there is a need to balance immediate critical business needs with employee engagement, motivation and morale.
Most business leaders would agree that talent management is vital to delivering business results; however two thirds of organisations have no talent strategies in place or any way to identify, develop, engage and retain their future management pool.
As delayering and reductions take place across local government and further austerity measures are implemented we recognise that responsibility is being distributed more broadly and further down organisations. Organisations are relying on those in professional roles to act in a leadership capacity more quickly than previously expected. This programme has been designed as an accelerated learning opportunity for public sector officers who are aspiring to their next move.
Overall outcomes for the programme
This eight month programme aims to provide a solid basis to develop leaders to meet these challenges. It utilises a blend of workshops, organisational raid and coaching to ensure participants maximise their learning opportunities. Coaches will be provided through the North West Employers’ Coaching Network.
The programme is centred on a number of leadership workshops, each of which will encompass a full day session. Keynote speakers and top-level practitioners will share their experience and knowledge encouraging participants to reflect on, consider and address their own learning and development priorities in this context. Whilst the programme will include leading edge theory, it will ensure participants are able to reflect critically on the rapidly changing public sector
landscape and context and help them make sense of this for their own roles and areas of responsibility. It is expected that participants will attend an initial induction session and all seven of the modules.
