Is this programme for you?

This programme offers something to our members that complements the great in-house induction programmes that take place in councils and that’s where Life as a Councillor was born. Our previous life as a councillor programme garnered 150 attendees across over 25 organisations.

One of the benefits of this regional programme has been the opportunity for newly elected councillors to come together and build their networks beyond their own organisation.

This offers the council a real life induction to life as a councillor, guiding participants through what it means to be a 21st century councillor. This programme will cover the practical hands-on parts of the role as this programme is designed and facilitated by a local councillor who has lots of experience.

New in 2024

We are doing things differently this year by having three cohorts for councillors to choose from. The cohorts will comprise of three 90 minute sessions covering different topics that delegates are required to attend.

This is a free event however we will be implementing a cancellation policy.

Cancellation Policy

Although this is a free to attend event, we hold the right to charge bookings £50 for non-attendance without notification. Please ensure you email events@nwemployers.org.uk 24 hours ahead of the sessions to stop the no-show  charge.
