There’s some great examples of place-based leadership happening, and we want to share and celebrate this whilst using the learning to create the right cultural conditions for our members to build capacity and sustainability with partners and communities.

We offer a range of support covering the full lifecycle of a councillor, including services around political leadership, personal development as well as scrutiny and governance. Underpinned by the 21st century councillor research and complemented by our Councillor Charter, our offer provides robust support and access to the very latest innovative research and thinking.

Asset Based Community Development - ABCD - 7 September 2023

Asset Based Community Development – ABCD – 7 September 2023

Who’s It For? The workshop is aimed at public sector leaders, Councillors, frontline staff including NHS, Local Authorities, Housing Associations, Police, and Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Sector.

What is Asset Based Community Development (ABCD)?

Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) is an approach that recognises and builds on the dreams, ideas, potential, strengths, gifts, talents and resources of individuals and communities to create strong, inclusive, and sustainable communities.

ABCD is a powerful approach to community engagement that focuses on capabilities and potential, rather than problems and needs by uncovering the resources that already exist in a community. Unearthing community strengths is a powerful and productive way to address problems and realise a collective vision.

Organisational Support

Organisational Support

Our organisational support uses good governance as a tool for growth.

We can take a holistic approach to support councillors and work with you to find solutions to current challenges.

We do this by focusing on what good scrutiny looks like, recognising and celebrating good practice, providing clarity around policies and procedures, supporting councillors and officers to work well together to improve service delivery, and through Cabinet development to aid effective leadership.

Senior/Political Leadership

Senior/Political Leadership

As part of our Life as a Councillor approach, we want to support councillors throughout all stages of their political career.

Our offer for senior leadership includes facilitation of cabinet away days, Chairing skills and developing leadership styles.

Cabinet 360 Feedback

Cabinet 360 Feedback

Our new online 360 tool provides detailed feedback from invited peers, residents, partners, leaders and self.

At the end of the process a confidential electronic report is produced, purely for your own use and development.

To maximise the reports value, a meeting between each councillor and a trained facilitator then takes place to explain and digest the information. On completion of the meeting a personal action plan is produced.

Scrutiny Reviews & Training for Local Authorities

Scrutiny Reviews & Training for Local Authorities

We can support you in undertaking a review of your scrutiny function, using a combination of; observing meetings, focus groups and 1-2-1 discussions.

Together, we will reflect and feedback on what’s working well and where there are opportunities to refresh your approach or skills to deliver impactful scrutiny and how the scrutiny function can support you in your work.
